Children of Seri Mulia Sarjana International School shed tears of laughter when an international artist displayed his comical skills during a two-hour traditional Japanese comedy sketch performance referred to as `Rakugo'.

One of the world's top performers of English Rakugo, Mr Kaishi Katsura, thrilled his audience with his funny jokes and stories.

Also present during the performance were the principal of the school, Dr Mary Lim, as well as officials from the Japanese Embassy.

Since 1997, Master Katsura has performed on more than 200 stages in 11 countries around the world. This is his second visit to Brunei, following an earlier visit in 2007. This time around, Master Katsura is performing with the assistance of DVD images to make his routine more appealing.

Rakugo can be best decribed as 'Japanese sit down comedy' which involves comic story telling and has a history that stretches back 400 years.

The performer sits on a small cushion in front of the audience and acts out stories by creating conversations between several characters.

Dressed in a traditional Japanese Kimono and equipped with nothing but a paper fan and hand towel, Mr Kaishi Katsura definitely can act out a humorous story. Today there are around 300 popular classic Rakugo.
